After careful monitoring of case levels in Arizona and current trend lines, we’re so excited to announce a return to in-person events in May. For many of them, we’re planning to spend most of the time outdoors, and for all of our in-person events, we’ll have masks on hand to provide to anyone who needs them. Community is at the heart of all our work, and we can’t wait to meet you! We’ve even designed an entire new line of t-shirts for our guests and volunteers to mark the occasion.

Volunteer at the Rainbows Festival
April 30 & May 1, 2022 | register
Join Equality Arizona & ONE Community in support of Equality and Fairness for All Americans (EQFFAA). The EQFFAA coalition believes there is a once in a decade opportunity to pass landmark legislation in advance of the midterm elections, to bring federal civil rights non-discrimination protections to millions of Americans in employment, education, housing, credit, jury service, and public accommodations. This will bring immediate relief to millions of Americans, including LGBTQ Americans, who live in fear of discrimination and have no legal recourse.
Volunteers will be collecting individual’s signatures electronically for our EQFFAA pledge. Please take a moment to read the pledge and mark your preferred shift(s) when registering. Coalition team members will be on hand to answer questions. Volunteer T-shirts will be provided.
Trans Rights Phone Bank (in-person)
11:00 am - 3:00 pm May 7, 2022 | register
Following Governor Ducey’s decision to sign SB 1138 and SB 1165 into law, and the actions of state governments across the country to limit access to transition care and social and educational opportunities, the trans community is in a moment of incredible vulnerability. On May 7, join us at the Tempe Public Library for our first in-person phone bank of the year to volunteer in support of our trans family, friends and neighbors. We’ll offer free drinks from the Connections Café and provide masks to reduce risk.
Learning the Political System: What is the U.S. Government?
5:00 pm - 6:00 pm May 10, 2022 | register
As part of our ongoing project of political education, we’ll be hosting a workshop covering the fundamentals of the U.S. Government. Join us at Fair Trade Cafe in Phoenix for coffee and community, and we’ll have some stickers and t-shirts to hand out too! Masks will be provided for anyone who needs them. If you were able to attend our previous installment, this will build on the historical concepts we covered, but all levels of knowledge are welcome and encouraged to sign up.
Town Hall: the Arizona Legislature
5:00 pm - 6:00 pm May 11, 2022 | register
Join Equality Arizona and our partners from Progress Arizona and Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona for a town hall on the state of public policy in the Arizona legislature. In the face of unprecedented attacks on voting rights, reproductive freedom, and LGBTQ+ equality, solidarity between causes is crucial to protect all of us. In this town hall we’ll discuss the legislation we’ve seen this session and the best strategies to push back. Send your questions in when you register, and we’ll answer them live!
Trans Rights Phone Bank (virtual)
11:00 am - 3:00 pm May 13, 2022 | register
Following Governor Ducey’s decision to sign SB 1138 and SB 1165 into law, and the actions of state governments across the country to limit access to transition care and social and educational opportunities, the trans community is in a moment of incredible vulnerability. On May 13, join us on Zoom for a virtual phone bank to volunteer in support of our trans family, friends and neighbors.
Canvassing: Mesa
10:00 am - 2:00 pm May 17, 2022 | register
The Equality Arizona Foundation is partnering with the Nile for a nonpartisan voter registration event! Meet us at their location in downtown Mesa for coffee and pastries before we set out to canvass the town. As part of our campaign to make sure all Arizonans are included in and have equal access to the political systems of our state, we’re piloting a new and novel hybrid approach to voter registration with our unique URL from the office of the Secretary of State of Arizona. We’re planning to register thousands of voters this election cycle — can we count on you to join us?
Queer People Fit: Cycling Event
6:00 pm - 7:00 pm May 19, 2022 | register
With states across the country trying to exclude queer and trans people from bathrooms, history textbooks, sex ed curricula, and sports, we’re constantly being told where we don’t fit. In answer to Arizona’s new student athlete ban, Equality Arizona is launching a new program to provide an inclusive space for sports and exercise, with the mantra: queer people fit. On May 19, join us at Tempe Beach Park for a cycling tour around Tempe Town Lake.
