Today, Monday March 1st at 5:45 PM, Mesa City Council will meet to discuss, receive public comment, and take action on an LGBTQ+ inclusive non-discrimination ordinance. You can watch the meeting online at mesa11.com/live, and we urge you to sign up to speak or to give comment. Having a strong, vocal presence in this meeting will be vital, so we’ve put together a comprehensive guide to the non-discrimination ordinance and what you can do to make it a reality.
This non-discrimination ordinance sends the message that LGBTQ+ families and individuals are welcome in Mesa, and will have immediate benefits to the city and its people. It’s also personal to us at Equality Arizona. Christiana Hammond, our director of operations, lives in Mesa, and she and her family deserve fairness and equality in the city they call home. We support Mesa’s non-discrimination ordinance for the people near and dear to us, and ask that you do the same.
