November Events from Equality Arizona
Find ways to spend time with the LGBTQ+ community after Election Day
As Election Day draws closer and closer, tensions are high and the stakes are higher. Looking at a recent report from the Human Rights Campaign that the LGBTQ+ community is the fastest growing segment of the electorate, it’s maybe not a surprise that we’re one of the most viciously targeted communities by anti-democracy reactionaries. And with much of that demographic change projected to come from younger generations entering the electorate, it shouldn’t be a surprise either that the war on democracy and the war against our community is so often and so intensely a war against the young.
But as bleak as it can seem, what this means is that we have the stronger footing. At Equality Arizona, we're driven by a belief in the power of community. Each month, we host events designed to build the confidence, knowledge, and wellness of LGBTQ+ Arizonans, from community-led events like Queer People Fit to opportunities for political education and civic advocacy. We’ve got some great events lined up for November, and we hope you can join us! Keep reading to learn more, or visit the events calendar on our website to keep up to date with all of our plans.

We can’t wait to see you!
Queer People Fit: South Mountain

Location: Judith Tunnell Accessible Trail at South Mountain Preserve
Move with us to build the movement for equality! Join us in the crisp Autumn air for a walk along the accessible Judith Tunnell trail at South Mountain on Tuesday, November 15. The Queer People Fit series exists for LGBTQ+ people to come together to build community and to find a sense of belonging, and there’s no one right way to do that! So bring a thermos of tea, or an instant camera, or plug in your headphones and take the walk at your own pace.
Civic Advocacy Jam
12:30 pm - 2:00 pm November 19, 2022 | register
Location: Tempe Public Library, 3500 S Rural Rd, Tempe
Join us on November 19 for our first monthly Civic Advocacy Jam! There’s another legislative session just around the corner, and this will be our first opportunity to plan and prepare as a community to meet the challenges the coming year might bring. At Equality Arizona, we know that civic advocacy means a lot more than reacting to flashpoints, so we’ll be using these monthly jams to practice design thinking for policy. Bring your ideas, your frustrations, and a willingness to think creatively!
Banned Book Club
6:30 pm - 8:00 pm November 21, 2022 | register
Location: Brick Road Coffee, 4415 S Rural Rd Suite 10, Tempe
As book bans sweep the nation, one great way to push back is to read! One of the most banned books in the United States, and our selection for the month of November, is the graphic memoir Gender Queer, by Maia Kobabe. Join us at Brick Road coffee on November 21 to discuss the book and the backlash with our book club host Vanessa Marie!
