Arizona Business Leaders Stand Up for Voters
Equality Arizona and One Community are Proud to Work with Business Leaders to Defend Full and Equal Citizenship for Arizonans - from Non-Discrimination to Voting Rights
Today the Phoenix Business Journal published a powerful op-ed from the President and CEO of the Arizona Technology Council, Steven Zylstra, against barriers to voting. The title of the article is “There should not be any barriers to voting. Period.”
Mr. Zylstra is the latest business leader to come out publicly in support of voting rights and in opposition to voter suppression efforts in legislatures across the country. “More than several hundred bills now are making their ways through legislatures around the country — Arizona included — that ultimately could make voting more difficult. Voting should be as easy and accessible as possible for all Americans. It’s a right. And I’m not alone in feeling that way.”
Mr. Zylstra isn’t alone – earlier this year Greater Phoenix Leadership, an organization that represents over 100 business leaders and their respective 300,000 employees, published a statement in opposition to Senate Bills 1485, 1593, and 1713.This statement begins, “Disenfranchising Voters is not Election Reform." Arizonans have an election system that is safe, secure, and convenient. Through the hard work of election officials and leaders from both parties, our voting system serves as a national model. Despite this success, we are now witnessing legislative efforts aimed at not only undoing this carefully crafted system, but actually attempting to suppress the votes of Arizonans. These efforts are misguided and must be defeated.”
One Community and Equality Arizona celebrate the advocacy of these business leaders. This is the type of leadership Arizona Needs. Thank you to Steven Zylstra, GPL and all of those who are speaking out in support of equal access to the ballot for all Arizonans.
Your support ensures that we can keep working with these courageous business leaders to win fairness for all Arizonans, in the workplace, in our neighborhoods, and on the ballot. Your donation today makes equality tomorrow possible.
