Action Alert: Stop SB1269
This morning: stop a strike everything attempt to protect conversion therapy
Today at 2 PM, the House Criminal Justice Reform Committee will vote on SB1269, a bill with a “strike everything” amendment that introduces dangerously broad language to prevent ethical standards of care for medical professionals from being written into law. This would have the effect of safeguarding the harmful and discredited practice of so-called conversion “therapy,” and would expose any individual seeking counseling or mental healthcare to the risk of unchecked abuse.
We need you to contact these Republican members of the House Criminal Justice Reform Committee this morning to ask them to vote against SB1269:
Walter “Walt” Blackman (Chairman): wblackman@azleg.gov | (602) 926-3043
Shawnna Bolick (Vice-chairman): sbolick@azleg.gov | (602) 926-3244
Joel John: jjohn@azleg.gov | (602) 926-3276
Bret M. Roberts: broberts@azleg.gov | (602) 926-3158
Ben Toma: btoma@azleg.gov | (602) 926-3298
Use the paragraph below to guide your comments, and share this action alert to get as many voices as possible behind this message.
“The strike everything amendment to SB1269 endangers any Arizonan seeking counseling or mental health services, and leaves LGBTQ+ Arizonans particularly vulnerable to the dangerous and discredited practice of conversion therapy, which is not health care. We need strong ethical standards to ensure the highest quality of care in our state. Please vote no on SB1269 today.”
