Action Alert | anti-LGBT bill HB 2294 on the move
Take action today to stop unnecessary and divisive legislation in the House Government & Elections committee
Wednesday morning at 9 AM, the House Government & Elections committee will meet to hear Representative Fillmore’s HB 2294, a regressive bill that limits the ability of the vital records department or any other “agency, board, commission or department of this state” to issue documents with a gender marker other than M or F.
Here’s the thing: these are already the only two options in Arizona, and Fillmore’s bill won’t change that. HB 2294 isn’t about adding or taking away alternatives, like the X gender marker available on U.S. passports and in 21 states. All this bill actually is, is Fillmore sending a signal that he’s seen what California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico have done to improve the lives of non-binary and intersex people, and he doesn’t want that for Arizona.
What you can do right now
Log in to Request to Speak to register your position against this bill, and then contact members of the House Government & Elections committee to ask them to vote no on unnecessary and divisive legislation that ties the hands of our state agencies.
